ABOUT

After 15 years of building landscapes as a contractor and 20 years of making ceramic sculpture I decided to bring the two professions together to make functional, sculptural ceramics that could live outdoors year round. I grew up in a unique environment, on a small island with no electricity, no phones, and not many other people other than my family, spending most of my time outdoors in nature exploring, working, living in it. Since then I have lived in human centric environments across the United States and in Europe. This dichotomy informs my aesthetic and my approach to creating. Many of our finishes are designed to harmonize with the natural environment and to help create a sense of peace in our built environment, while other of our finishes are intentionally bright, intended to pop a burst of color and accent a space. Our forms are often simple, pared down of ornament and architecturally stoic. Designed to hold space and impose form but also to carry a certain noble quality.

All our work is fabricated and fired at our facilities outside of Chatham NY. We have 6 kilns: four gas kilns and two electric. Most or our work is fired in our 73 cubic foot Bailey kiln. This is the heart of our operation and allows us to make massive pots as well as monolithic slab tabletops.  We are constantly trying out new processes as well, firing porcelain and stoneware in our site built gas kiln to achieve heavy reduction/carbon trap shinos and organizing group firings in our two raku kilns.  We also have a new glaze kitchen where we mix all our own glazes and slips.
