I've been working with clay for the past 15 years; first finding the medium while taking a break from studying writing. The material held an expressive quality which I was attracted to; I stuck with it. I first started working on the potter's wheel, eventually arriving at a point where I was teaching advanced technical throwing classes. I soon realized that hand building was more interesting to me. I began making large scale ceramic assemblage pieces with found objects. I then moved to a city and the lack of space began to influence my work as I started making small hand built vessels which eventually became synonymous with boats; I began to hang them and they became kinetic. The body of work began as a personal narrative, eventually became a more universal symbolism, then came to a close. Now I make large scale ceramic pieces. The themes are informed by mythology, history, architecture, and age. They represent markers along a path, sign posts, stelae.

While working with clay my other life has continued and the work I've done there has helped to inspire my sculpture. I have worked extensively as a mason and landscaper, building dry stone rock walls, designing gardens, observing nature. I have also worked as a carpenter/builder and currently own and operate a small contracting firm specializing in green design/build.

Thank you for taking a look.
